Take a look at the tools and supplies I use to create the beads in this course then explore your options.  Click the "download file" button above to download and print.

Tools

  • Something to pull stringer with – I like to use a pliers, you use whatever you are used to using

  • You'll want your regular marver – I like to use a graphite marver

  • You will want a flat metal tool for surface adjustments (like Corina's magic wand, the back end of a tweezers, or even a butter knife). I'll call it a “cold metal tool” for many techniques in this class. I use a Hornik shaper made by Amnon Elbaz

 Glass for making base beads

  • I like to use white glass for my base bead. I use Effetre white #204. You can use any compatible glass or color you think will look good with your designs.

 Glass for giraffe spot colors

  • Any compatible color will work. I tend to avoid reactive or opaque colors, but you might enjoy them quite a bit! I will use Effetre transparent light amber #012 for the spot color in this class, but I've also used #08 (pale) and #014 (medium) depending on how dark I'm looking to make the spots.

 Glass for encasing

  • I use both Effetre super clear #006 to encase most of my work and the demo beads in this class. You might also want to consider pale transparent colors to enhance your background colors.

Glass for end caps and giraffe silhouettes

  • I suggest a well saturated color for fine line stringer work. I use Reichenbach deep black #9203 but any saturated black you prefer to work with will work too. I will use Effetre white #204 for the giraffe eyes and accent end caps. I hope you explore a variety of colors for these silly beads!
